Framing the Dialogue

You’re Fired!

blago trump hairA recent news story caught my eye and may be the harbinger of the begining of the end of the endless reality televsion series.  Mr. Political Bad Hair may meet Mr. Business Bad Hair.  The rumours have not been confirmed, but it appears that disgraced former governor Rod Blagojevich may appear on The Donald’s reality show, The Apprentice.  It may be telling to see how inept politicians are in the “real world” and have to make, rather than take, money.  I don’t expect much from a politician.

As I was researching the subject, I found a few incidents involving other politicians who appeared on reality television shows.  I was surprised to find these as I had never seen them before in any news story.  I may have to start reading People magazine.

Chopped is the Food Networks reality show about aspiring chefs vying for a chance at a show on the network.  Former Obama advisor Van Jones briefly appeared on a White House version of the show.  In this series, however, the contestants vied to be the stealthiest communist in the administration.  Van Jones had the distinction of being the first “czar” chopped.  Since the series is not televised, there is no word on whether Obama or Emanuel did the chopping.

CLINTON INTERNFlavor of Lovefeatures Flavor Flav looking for love.  It is a very bizzare show featuring a man who does not seem to have a firm grasp of the English language.  The political version features Slick Willy looking for love in the Oval Office.  Unfortunately this show had to be cancelled as Slick was married, the contestant worked under him (haha), and it was the Oval Office.   A Republican version is reported to be in development and is slated to begin taping soon after South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford loses his re-election bid.

The Amazing Race is CBS’ hit television show about teams who race to places across the planet trying to beat the other teams.  The political version aired recently with the first destination Copenhagen.  The American, dream team of Michelle and Barack tried to “Wow” the crowds taking two large jets to the destination.  I guess that the words “I,”
me,” or “my” do not translate as well to the international community as the team was resondly thumped out of contention.

Survivor is the show where seemingly normal people are thrust together on teams.  The sinister part is that the teams have to work together to survive, yet knowing that ultimately that each will eventually be competing with each other.  The games, lies, and backstabbing make this an interesting look at ethics.   The political version is essentially the same except it is not interesting to watch the games, lies, and backstabbing.

Real World is an MTV show that places strangers into close living quarters and tapes their experiences.  I have not watched this show, but cannot imagine a political version of a show called “real world.”

These officials do not live in the real world.

Stay together in Flyover Country.
