Phrase-e-ology – The New Normal

Many times as I read an article I find a few sentences that capture the essence of the piece.  In “Phrase-e-ology” I’ll post some thought followed by key phrases.  As always I’ll have a link (in blue) to the original article.

The latest episode of Phrase-e-ology is from the business section and was startling in that it seems to be making the case for the sluggish recovery as the “new normal” rather than the direct result of bad economic policy from the Obama White House.  As if this is now how we should expect recoveries to unfold.  Even as Obama’s economic advisers abandon his ship for academia (they’re much better at theory than reality) the “new normal” may actually be some sub-standard level that he can actually achieve…as long as he can fool the electorate that they are doing better…

Spiking The Ball I Am Not

 Osama’s dead!  The bipolar White House (I appologize to people who suffer from bipolar disorder) cannot seem to figure out whether they want to be Terrell Owens or Hines Ward…showman/media hog or someone who has been there before.  Their actions speak much louder than their words…

…and these are Obama’s words

“”It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool. That’s not who we are. We don’t trot out this stuff as trophies…we don’t need to spike the football.”

Sticker Shock

So I’m driving through a more “liberal” neighborhood in Pittsburgh last Saturday and was not surprised to be following a boxy car covered with bumper stickers.  Surprisingly the car was not a Subaru Forester.  I first noticed the “coexist” sticker on the top center of the rear window.  I probably saw thirty of these that day during my travels.  The crescent always looks to me like a PacMan-like character ready to consume the other symbols (religions).  Perhaps that is an accurate symbolism.  As we wove through a somewhat rainy morning (hence the somewhat fuzzy photo – sorry about that) I got a chance to get a closer look at this driver’s array.  I started to laugh as I noticed two of the stickers were shockingly contradictory (I’ve enlarged them for you).

If The Fat Lady Sings

The latest “man-caused” disaster looming according to the drive-by media is a massive federal government shutdown. According to most reports the Republicans are holding Obama’s feet to the fire to secure nominal budget cuts in order to pass the budget. I characterized the desired cuts as nominal because what is 60 billion dollars in a budget well over a trillion dollars. Here at FramingTheDialogue I like to frame the issues using the truth and in this case there are the following factors:

  1. It is the responsibility of Congress and the President to pass a budget before the fiscal year begins.

News Briefs – Volume XXIV

News briefs are a collection of interesting news stories…

Brief 1: In the town where ground troops first met in battle during the Civil War (Manassas, VA or Bull Run for you northerners) another battle is looming. Obama’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) held a press conference yesterday proudly announcing that 160 “foreign nationals” (illegal aliens) were arrested. All was not joyful in the story however as local politicians reminded that ICE has a slushy record regarding detaining illegals even when they have criminal records.

Lone Wolf

Consider this headline:

Frankfurt Shooting Suspect Likely a ‘Lone Wolf’

The “alleged shooter, Arid Uka, is described as a “a 21-year-old ethnic Albanian whose family moved to Germany from Kosovo,(and) had an “Islamist” motivation for firing at U.S. Air Force personnel.”  I may have my history wrong, but President William Jefferson Clinton got us involved in Kosovo on the side of the Muslims.  Once control was wrested from the government (I know that Milosovic was a “bad” guy) the Christian churches started burning down and atrocities committed against those not practicing the Muslim religion.  At some point, perhaps, authorities will put the puzzle pieces together that, perhaps, a preponderance of evidence, perhaps, exists that since there are so many Muslim “lone wolves” out there that, perhaps, they should no longer be considered lone wolves even though there is not a paper trail linking the wolves.

Three Faces of Barry

I am going to allege something that may shock you.  I have observed a national politician who may change his message based on the audience to which he is speaking.  Some, including me, would call this type of behavior two-faced.  If you read the title you probably have a guess to whom I am speaking…our President Obama.  Politicians have always done this and pretty much gotten away with it, but Mr. Obama has perhaps taken the “skill” to a new level and is in many cases “three-faced.”  Building on his most favored status in the lame-stream media and his Pied Piper-like hypnosis over his minions he seems unabashed and does not even attempt to hide this form of politics.  I guess if it keeps working he’ll keep doing it.

A Few Words About Egypt

It is hard to even a few hours without hearing troubling news about the events in Egypt.  I have a few thoughts that you may have already heard and wanted to share them without deep analysis that can only reasonably come after the dust has settled.

  • I find it telling that the Obama Administration has delved deeply into the struggles of a nation ruled by a man seemingly unpopular with his people.  A man who rules with an iron fist, but is friendly to the west and Israel.  Obama’s daily calls for another country’s leader to step down is unsettling in that I thought he was against interference with the governance of other countries.

Severable (sev-er-a-bul)

Severable is defined as:  Capable of being severed or separated; separable into legally distinct rights or obligations, as a contract.

Synonyms: divisive, divisible, separable

What does Judge Roger Vinson think:

“Because the individual mandate is unconstitutional and not severable, the entire Act must be declared void.”

Can you give some examples?

Example 1:  When contracts are written, especially lengthy ones, there are many components to that contract.  If a conflict occurs between the parties over or an outside person challenges one component of the agreement it puts the remainder of the contract in jeopardy.  Attorneys often include a severability clause into the agreement stating that if one part of the agreement is deemed null/void then the rest of the contract shall remain.  As an example:

Update – On Government Exemptions

It seems like only two days ago that I stated that the White House had issued over 220 Obamacare waivers.  That number was a massive understatement and the number of waivers actually top 770 as reported on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.

“How can you get your own free pass from Obamacare? Maybe you can just donate $27 million to President Obama‘s campaign efforts. That’s what Andy Stern did as president of SEIU in 2008. He has been the most frequent guest at Mr. Obama‘s White House.”
