Update – True American Hero – Steve Wynn

In the tradition of John Galt, Steve Wynn has been an outspoken business leader and a refreshing contrast to other business people who are snuggling in to the federal government to gain special favors (i.e. GE’s Immelt).  I named Mr. Wynn a True American Hero nearly a year ago and have not been disappointed in his pro-capitalist stance.  Steve Wynn unloaded on the boy-president during a recent company conference call.  Here are some of his thoughts,

“what I consider to be a total lack of leadership from the President and nothing’s going to get fixed until the President himself steps up.”

True American Hero – Steve Wynn

A repeated tome in this blog is the desire for business leaders who are not coddling up to politicians to gain favor and subsequent breaks from government toadies.  It seems like General Motors, Chrysler, BP, AIG, Goldman Sachs executive accept the pound of flesh that they have give to political expediency.  The dutifully appear before Congress to be berated and belittled, slink off to their boardroom to lick their wounds only to emerge like the Phoenix with even more power and favor from government.

One Thousand Dollar Hammers

Around television ratings weeks investigative reporters pull out their eye-raising stories that are typically about government waste and abuse.  They often use “gotcha” tactics to surprise government workers who are not really working.  A favorite is the story about some item that you or I could buy at the local Home Depot for under ten dollars, but our government has paid hundreds or even thousands for.  I, like many have asked why the government pays so much for stuff  and even more for any work that it wants performed.

Uncertainty (un – sûr – tn – tee)

Uncertainty is defined as:

  1. Situation where the current state of knowledge is such that the order or nature of things is unknown, the consequences, extent, or magnitude of circumstances, conditions, or events is unpredictable, and credible probabilities to possible outcomes cannot be assigned.
  2. Doubt

Synonyms:  doubt, mistrust, suspicion

What does W think?

“If America shows weakness and uncertainty, the world will drift toward tragedy. That will not happen on my watch.”

George W. Bush

Can you give an example?

A New Global Authority

“There is urgent need (for) a true world political authority that can manage the global economy, guarantee the environment is protected, ensure world peace and bring about food security for the poor.”

This is a recent quote from a world leader.  I want you to guess who made the statement.

  1. Barack Obama
  2. Ban Ki-moon (head of the U.N.)
  3. Warren Buffet (second richest man in the world)
  4. George Clooney
  5. Hu Jintao (leader of China)
  6. Fidel Castro
