Rich Man Poor Man

Politicians, civic “leaders”, newspersons, and citizens seem to be engaged in some class warfare lately.  This probably has always been true with what may be the most famous example in France.  Did Marie Antoinette really say, “Let them eat cake” when told that the peasants did not have bread?  Did the peasants have their fill when they later said “off with her head?”

The funny thing is that being rich or poor is a relative thing.  Rich in America probably pales in comparison to rich in Dubai while poor in America looks rich to the citizens of Zimbabwe although there are probably a lot of billionaires there.  A billion dollars there, however, will not buy you a loaf of bread.

Rush To Judgement

A while back I posted Divided We Fail, which outlined my theory that politicians want a divided country so they can “rule” with impunity.  I am sorry about the quotes, but I cannot bring myself to call what politicians do as ruling or leadership.  I have to use the quotation marks to signify my dirision at their efforts.

In the last few days and weeks, there seems to be another campaign, primarily by the President and his followers to provide a distraction.  The willing mainstream media made a big deal about how President Obama had a secret meeting with “leading” conservatives in the media.  Unfortunately, the meeting was not so secret and the meeting did not include the most conservative voices.

It’s So Cute How They Can’t Help Themselves

Hopefully by now you have read my review of Bernie Goldberg’s book, Bias.  The mainstream (drive by) media cannot seem to differentiate between news and commentary.  Maybe I can help.  News is what happens and you are supposed to write about.  To quote a famous TV show from my youth “The facts ma’am, just the facts.”  (the show was Dragnet)

In a Commentary, however, is where you give your opinion.  The media can be so cute when they confuse the two.  By cute, I mean irritating.  The latest example was an article from Liz Sidoti of the Associated Press about the Republican National Committee electing Michael Steele as their national chairman.  Mr. Steele happens to be black and is the first black RNC chairman in history.
