Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Usually when someone describes “light at the end of a tunnel” that is a good thing though not in this case.   I am in this tunnel (actually we all are) and this light is speeding toward us.  We are not really in a position to escape and the walls are too narrow for us to hope that is passes harmlessly by us.  What I am talking about is a notice that I received from my employer recently.  These notices are typical this time of year to outline issues/changes to the W-2 reporting.  They are generally unremarkable.  This year’s notice included this paragraph which is the “light” to which I was referring;

Hey Arnold

Arnold Ahlert

Many times as I read an article I find a few sentences that capture the essence of the piece. In “Phrase-e-ology” I’ll post some thought followed by key phrases. As always I’ll have a link (in blue) to the original article.

I had this thought and included it in my My Country Tis of Me posting a few days ago.  I heard a talk show discussing this very thing I had mentioned about the Republicans giving Obama everything he wants thus pinning everything on him.  I know it sounds suicidal, but Mr. Arnold Ahlert posted the same thing, but in more detail and he did it two days before my post, though I hadn’t seen his until tonight.  Here are some key phrases and as always read the linked article…in two parts.

Business Speaks…FINALLY!

It has been beyond comprehension to me that business men and women have not really spoken out about the direction of our country and the climate in which they have to navigate to do business. They have been so un-Galt-like that it frankly had me frightened. There have been those like Steve Wynn and the bombastic Donald Trump who have been outspoken, but most have been silent. Some have begun to speak and their knowledge of the economy should carry weight and many have been darlings of the lame-stream media so they’ll have some coverage, at least initially until the media “discovers” (i.e. told by the White House) that they are really crackpots.

True American Hero – Dr. Barbara Bellar

It may be too soon to tell, but the following video by Dr. Barbara Bellar gets her noted on this website as a True American Hero. The video is over eleven minutes, but you only have to listen to the first few minutes for her big moment. In one, albeit long, sentence she sums up the folly of Obamacare. She goes on to make a strong case against the government takeover of OUR healthcare, but those are deeper arguments that the masses won’t listen to or hear. Her sentence early in the video is perfect.

Don’t Piss On My Leg…

…and tell me it’s raining!

Unemployment:   If you listen to the White House and the mainstream media puppets you’ll think unemployment is trending down and at 8 percent as of February 2012.  Too bad the numbers are cooked (FYI all administrations cook) and are quite misleading…okay not “misleading” but flat out lies.  Gallup offers real unemployment numbers;

REAL UNEMPLOYMENT IS 19.0 PERCENT

If you want to compare the numbers the White House uses then Gallup determined that rate to be 9.0 percent;

Polls & Pills

Continuing with the full court press to keep his foot in the door of separation of church and state, Obama-ites are polling out all the stops.  Get it “polling” out all of the stops?

Public backs Obama in birth control fight, poll suggests

Obama, liberals, secularists, progressives, Democrats, and their ilk all love the battle started by Obama against the Catholic Church.  His latest shot (I’m not sure that it was his first) was to try, through Obamacare, to FORCE the Catholic Church to provide free services for contraceptive, sterilization, and certain prescriptions (i.e. the morning after pill) to all of their employees.  These services are directly contradictory to Catholic beliefs and teachings.  Needless to say the Catholics balked, screamed, and made Obama “back off,” but he really didn’t.  His response was to simply require the insurance companies provide the services.  As if the extra costs associated with these services won’t be passed along for the Church to pay.

News Briefs – Volume XXXI – Very UnCONSTITUTIONAL

News briefs are a collection of interesting news stories. This edition is all about how Obama’s unconstitutional actions WILL affect your life

Brief 1:  One option that a president has to get some of his controversial nominees appointed is to wait for Congress to recess and then is able to appoint them to a limited term.  I remember celebrating W’s recess appointment of John Bolton as U.N. ambassador.  Obama stired controversy on recent recess appointments because Congress was not actually in recess.  The Supreme Court and settled law had determined that if Congress was not in session for three or more days then they were in recess.  Obama, with the backing of his Justice Department waited ONE DAY to claim a recess and appoint his henchmen.  Fortunately we have a strong Congress who cares about maintain the delicate balance of the three branches of government and will soon fix/find a way to reverse the appointments – - Oh wait we don’t have enough Congressmen with the guts to take on Obama.

In The Year 2525

The year 2525 is probably the year when we “officially” find out from historians that conservatives were right and that Barney Frank and Democrat policies started the global financial meltdown and Obama’s policies like the Stimulus, Obamacare, and Dodd-Frank prolonged the agony.  That is because history is mostly written by liberal academics (I know that is redundant) and they have a slightly biased view of the world.

I am exagerating about the date 514 years from now, but consider that until recently most historical accounts of the Great Depression give FDR credit for ending it.  There have been books like The Forgotten Man which set the record straight, but few probably read this.  However nearly seventy years after the depression ended two UCLA economists place the blame where it belongs…on FDR.

Executive Power

The framers wrote the Constitution to provide for a separation of powers, or three separate branches of government. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. This is done through checks and balances. A branch may use its powers to check the powers of the other two in order to maintain a balance of power among the three branches of government. The three branches of the U.S. Government are: Legislative, Executive, Judicial

Parsimony – Obama Overhaul

In “Parse-imony” I break down current news stories with my pithy, running commentary…

First the headline…

Obama pulls plug on part of health overhaul law

…and now the story:

WASHINGTON – (AP) — The Obama administration says it is unable to go forward with a major program in the president’s signature health care overhaul law — a new long-term care insurance plan. [broken promises]

Officials said Friday the long-term care program has critical design flaws that can’t be fixed to make it financially self-sustaining. [Perhaps had they spent a little time doin some cipherin they could have figured this stuff out ahead of time.  It is hard to believe that the White House's fiscal projections were flawed.]
