Arithmatricks

The liberal, mainstream media is all a twitter about the latest unemployment numbers coming out of the Department of Labor.  Yes our unemployment rate is now a healthy 8.6 percent and that number grabbed many headlines along with the pronouncement that that is the lowest rate since March 2009.  Unfortunately that is all that most of the American public will hear going into the weekend.  Left out of most news blurbs was some rather important facts;

  1. You’ll hear that payroll increased by 120,000 jobs, but probably will not be told that most of those jobs are temporary, holiday seasonal positions which should make for some somber January 2012 numbers.

Econ 1

The Great Vilsacko performs his money magic trick.

I am currently reading Return to Prosperity by Phd economist Arthur Laffer and I’ll review the book as usual after I finish it, but a recent statement by President Obama’s Agriculture Secretary had me referring to the “Econ 1” phrase Dr. Laffer uses frequently when describing politicians lack of knowledge that is taught in a basic economics class. Secretary Vilsack appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to tout the benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“SNAP” or Food Stamps as we used to call it). Vilsack called SNAP the “most direct stimulus you can get into the economy during these tough times.” I guess that he also considers the fact that America has vastly increased the number of people “stimulating” the economy as 1 in 7 people are in the program. Let that sink in…NEARLY 15 PERCENT OF OUR FELLOW AMERICANS GET FOOD FROM THE GOVERNMENT!

Update – True American Hero – Rep. Michelle Bachmann

After her big win last night, Rep. Bachmann for some insane reason agreed to an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.  Itching for a fight, Matthews couldn’t wait to try to pin her down on some statement she made on an earlier appearance on his show.  When she wouldn’t take his bait he accused her of being “hypnotized” and repeatedly threw out this accusation and at one point describe her as “looking moronically” at the camera.  It is interesting when a member of the media feels comfortable using very negative words to describe a member of Congress.  I understand that is what MSNBC’s “vast” audience tunes in for, but I found it to be very disrespectful.

GMZ – Celebrity Reading List

Perhaps the perky, Pulitzer Prize winning Katie Couric had her greatest moment when she seemed to stump Sarah Palin when she inquired about what the former Alaska governor reads.  Months later Palin spun it that she was rather perturbed at Couric’s sophomoric [my description] question and not caught off balance.  Only she knows for sure.

Flow – Go With It Lame Stream Media

It started as a relatively modest groundswell as average citizen awoke to the path politicians were forcing us down.  The groundswell was followed by a trickle as more folks got engaged and even the main stream media started to actually report rather than cheer on the Obama White House.

The groundswell and trickle has lead to a flow!

The first example is the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart.  Jon is a liberal stalwart who generally leans severely left while occasionally getting it “right.”  While the rest of the lame stream media ignored the Climategate scandal, Stewart made this broadcast.  This must have been a shock to Stewarts audience.  Ordinarily I would embed the video here, but it is no longer available on YouTube.  This link will take you to the clip.

Cooper Should Make a 360 and “Come Out of the Closet”

The mainstream media (“MSM”) showed their true stripes again during their coverage of the hundreds of Tea Parties held yesterday.  When confronted with a true grass-roots effort to protest excessive taxation and what is turning into an ever intrusive federal government, the MSM fell back on their typical, tired playbook.  They tried to diminish the efforts of the planners and attendees like the elitists they are.

Over the years, Anderson Cooper had seemed to be different, but we probably saw the real Cooper yesterday.  During his coverage of the tea parties and in response to a statement from David Gergen about the Republicans needing to “find their voice,” Cooper made the smug, off-color statement:

Everything Before “But” Is Bull

Over the years, there have been only a few phrases or sayings that have stuck with me.  We all have learned the Golden Rule from our parents and that is a basic way to you’re your life.  What I am talking about are phrases that stick in my head and make me hesitate when I say something often forcing me to reword what I was about to say.

I first heard one of these phrases on one of my favorite talk shows, Quinn and Rose in the Morning.  One of my favorite quotes from Jim Quinn is “everything before “but” is bull.”  When you speak and use the word “but” to qualify the statement, that qualification is nonsense, untrue, a lie, or bull.
