Food For Thought

food_for_thought_icon“If you don’t read the newspaper you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed. – Mark Twain

“I contend that, for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity, is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” – Winston Churchill

“A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” – George Bernard Shaw

“A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money.” – G. Gordon Liddy

The Machinery of Freedom

machinery of freedom“The purpose of this book is to persuade you that a libertarian society would be both free and attractive, that the institutions of private property are the machinery of freedom, making it possible, in a complicated and interdependent world, for each person to pursue his life as he sees fit.”

Though some of the examples are dated as this was originally published in 1973 and this second edition was five years later, the basic tenants of David Friedman’s “guide to a radical capitalism” are still appropriate today.  In The Machinery of Freedom does a thorough job of clouding the issues surrounding Libertarianism.  That’s not a bad thing as readers will come to know as complex issues are complex.  Mr. Friedman successfully uses many examples to make his points.

Parsimony – War On Fox

Neither the lame-stream media nor the far left seem to know what to do about Fox News.  They both agree to some old fashioned blocking of the free press, but Fox is just too big and too popular, and thus has too big of a soapbox.  This latest folly from the Adulterated Press (AP) is cute, but worth parsing…

First the headline (with a link to the original story)…

Fox’s correspondent on front lines with Obama

…Now the story with my bold comments:

Separated At Birth – Candy/Rosie

Rosey the Robot Maid:  Rosie is a humanoid robot fictional character in The Jetsons animated television series of the 1960s. She is the Jetson’s maid and housekeeper and is usually depicted wearing a frilly apron. Her torso is mounted atop a single leg and she rolls about on a set of caster wheels.  She frequently calls George Jetson “Mr. J”.  Rosey was an old demonstrator model hired by the Jetson family from U-RENT A MAID. In the episode “Rosey the Robot”, her model number is revealed as XB-500.  Rosey is modeled after Hazel from the TV show Hazel, a sitcom featuring Shirley Booth as a similar maid character.

Waking the Sleeping Giant

How many of you just let obnoxious, misleading (i.e. lies, falsehoods), arrogant comments just slide by when uttered by the left? In the interest of peace and not starting an argument most of us let things slide. We are not by nature confrontational. In essence we are the “sleeping giant.” We are MAINSTREAM AMERICA and we are generally silent with our beliefs.

Rules for Radical Conservatives

“Ivan is thrilled.  Mikhail is devastated.  All their lives, they have been equal, the way good Soviet Men should be.  They had nothing, and nothing is what they shared equally.  You could not have asked for a purer expression of true communism.  As Mikhail watches Ivan’s lot improve, he seethes.  He complains to the local soviet, but there’s nothing they can do, because even in the U.S.S.R., it’s not against the law to have a cow.  Mikhail briefly considers reporting his friend to the Cheka, but finally decides against it; after all, he’s not a bad man, just a poor man…he does something he’d almost forgotten how to do.  He prays…’All my life I have striven to be a good atheist and not believe in you.  But now, I humbly come to you directly.  Please, God, please hear my prayer.  Please make us equal again.’  For a moment all is silent.  Then, to his utter amazement, a voice emerges out of the clouds, a voice that only he can hear, ‘Mikhail,’ says God, ‘your prayers have been answered.  You shall be made equal again.’  Mikhail leaps to his feet in disbelief.  A look of transfigured radience plays across his noble Slavic peasant features.  He cannot believe his good fortune. ‘Oh good!’ he exclaims. ‘You’re going to kill Ivan’s cow!”

Tax Cuts Cost More!

GOP tax cut plan to cost $28B more than Dems’ pitch

This headline should alternately make your head explode, make you cry, or piss you off.  Published by the Washington Post (Obama Post) last Thursday (click on the headline to be directed to the full article) it fallaciously attempts to paint the “Dem’s” as cost cutters because, I guess, their tax plan “costs” less.

ALL POLITICIANS, LAME STREAM MEDIA ELITISTS, LIBERALS, RINOS, OTHER STUPID PEOPLE should note that LETTING US KEEP THE MONEY THAT WE HAVE LEGITIMATELY EARNED SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A FREAKIN COST!

Saving The World

Many times as I read an article I find a few sentences that capture the essence of the piece. In “Phrase-e-ology” I’ll post some thought followed by key phrases. As always I’ll have a link (in blue) to the original article.  Sadly I find that the better, truer, more honest articles are found in British or Canadian media outlets.  The tilt of America’s lame-stream media is well documented and so far in the tank for liberals it is essentially no longer a “free press” that we can count on for news and information.  The recent victory by Wisconsin’s Governor Scott Walker has been covered though the import has been marginalized by the left media.  The actions by Alabama have been ignored exempt for the British Press;

Dueling Dershowitz

It is rare that I find myself rooting for someone like Alan Dershowitz.  His is a liberal that I have rather disliked for many years.  I really should not say that I dislike him, but I typically dislike his left views, but lately he has been standing up for what is right (not conservative, but right) and has been criticized for it.  I sense that Mr. Dershowitz is an old fashioned liberal.  He is someone that a conservative would disagree with, argue with, debate with, get exasperated with, but at the end of the day you could find some common ground with and accomplish something.
