The Coptic Christians are perhaps some of the most faithful Christians and they have to be as their places of worship seem to in Middle East countries dominated by Islam. As a minority surrounded by many hostile people their faith must be strong. I have to admit that I know very little about this church other than occasional news stories where one of their churches happened to be burned down during Muslim protests.
A recent headline from The Washington Post caught my eye recently,
One of my favorite authors, Thomas Sowell, penned an article critical of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Ordinarily I would concur with his perspective, but cannot bring myself to “park at his ranch” on this issue (I apologize in advance if I lapse into more farm/country colloquialisms). A local syndicated radio host, Jim Quinn, has taken up the mantle and has been talking about the issue. As is often the case when the lame-stream media take up an issue they only scratch the surface thereby missing the bigger picture. In this case these are two conservatives who I respect. This is an excerpt from Sowell’s Townhall article;
A little over a year ago I wrote about a groundswell that I felt and saw in the real America. That groundswell was followed by a trickle as more citizens became enraged and engaged at the direction of our government. The lame-stream media still shills for the Democrats, but a flow happened as even the staunchest Obama-phites could not resist the temptation to poke fun and point out hypocrisy.
While many of us conservatives are not the least bit surprised that Democrat leaders don’t understand the hopes, fears, desires, expectations we have for our country, I have been more than a little surprised at the blindness of so many Republicrats to the same issues. As a registered Republican (though not for long – can you say independent) I was rather discouraged when our presidential nominee was ordained long before the primary in my state. Even more perplexing was the fact that Democrat voters and pundits had more say in that selection than millions of registered Republicans. The turnout in the 2008 election is a testament to the disgust many of us felt, though I swallowed and voted for Palin/McCain.
Tweety Bird: Tweety is, for the most part, a good-natured character happily spending life in his cage or a nest. However, when a cat or other adversary threatens him, he can become downright malicious and devious, even kicking his enemy when he’s down. In many of Tweety’s appearances the bird is shown accompanying his owner, Granny. His darker side frequently is masked beneath the surface and though “cute” viewers, after a time, start cheering for his adversaries. Who didn’t want the coyote to catch the roadrunner just once? Tweety’s catch-phrase;
“I taut I taw a puddy tat”
Bunker Hill, Trenton, Antietam (Sharpsburg for you southerners), Cold Harbor, Gettysburg, Argonne , Iwo Jima, Midway, Utah Beach, Inchon, Hamburger Hill, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan should mostly be familiar to you as sites where America found glory while many of its sons and daughters gave their last full measure.
These famous battles could not have been won without dedicated military leaders. You know the guys who would lead the charge up that hill, up the beach, or across that field. It always intrigued me about how soldiers follow their leaders even though many know that death awaits. Medals are often given to those that die or are wounded, but not enough is given to those who simply follow and fight.
Even before I reached my advanced age I was a list maker. Whether it be a shopping list, task list or the every present Honey-Do list there is usually one in my pocket. My obsession 
(or organization skill) is to the point where I will actually add a task to a work list after I have completed it. The task did not have to be on my original list. I just like to cross items off of my lists.
It started as a relatively modest groundswell as average citizen awoke to the path politicians were forcing us down. The groundswell was followed by a trickle as more folks got engaged and even the main stream media started to actually report rather than cheer on the Obama White House.
The groundswell and trickle has lead to a flow!
The first example is the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart. Jon is a liberal stalwart who generally leans severely left while occasionally getting it “right.” While the rest of the lame stream media ignored the Climategate scandal, Stewart made this broadcast. This must have been a shock to Stewarts audience. Ordinarily I would embed the video here, but it is no longer available on YouTube. This link will take you to the clip.
I had thought about the framework for this posting for a little while, but only recently found the hook that I wanted to use. I was checking in on Facebook and noticed a posting from a friend of a friend ”liking” a photograph [that actually makes sense if you use facebook] of President Obama and his family returning from their Hawaiian vacation. Many of the friends posted comments and since I surmise from the photograph that most of these folks are young I was not too surprised at the comments.
“Great picture. What a beautiful family. I’m so glad they got a chance to escape the maddness for a short vacation.”
I guess that it is tradition to end the previous year and start a new year with some wishes or resolutions for the future. As we move into the second decade of the 21st century I have a few of my own…hopefully for your enjoyment:
