America The Beautiful

“I would like to see scientists and engineers get much more involved in the political process, bringing their no-nonsense common sense and logic to the table.”

Business Speaks…FINALLY!

It has been beyond comprehension to me that business men and women have not really spoken out about the direction of our country and the climate in which they have to navigate to do business. They have been so un-Galt-like that it frankly had me frightened. There have been those like Steve Wynn and the bombastic Donald Trump who have been outspoken, but most have been silent. Some have begun to speak and their knowledge of the economy should carry weight and many have been darlings of the lame-stream media so they’ll have some coverage, at least initially until the media “discovers” (i.e. told by the White House) that they are really crackpots.

True American Hero – Dr. Barbara Bellar

It may be too soon to tell, but the following video by Dr. Barbara Bellar gets her noted on this website as a True American Hero. The video is over eleven minutes, but you only have to listen to the first few minutes for her big moment. In one, albeit long, sentence she sums up the folly of Obamacare. She goes on to make a strong case against the government takeover of OUR healthcare, but those are deeper arguments that the masses won’t listen to or hear. Her sentence early in the video is perfect.

Talk Me Off Of the Ledge

No I am not planning to throw myself off of a tall building, but life as a conservative seems rather harsh and I keep looking at how easy it is for liberals with more than a little jealousy.  Life for a liberal is quite simple…

  • It’s a life where they can go from Global Cooling will kill us unless we do something, to Global Warming will kill us unless we take drastic (and costly) measures, to a nice balance of Global Climate Change which gives them cover to every climate situation.  They seem to have no qualms about making these label changes and are as vociferous in their arguments.  Oh and they have the backing of the elitist media. That’s much better than the facts.

News Briefs – Volume XXXI – Very UnCONSTITUTIONAL

News briefs are a collection of interesting news stories. This edition is all about how Obama’s unconstitutional actions WILL affect your life

Brief 1:  One option that a president has to get some of his controversial nominees appointed is to wait for Congress to recess and then is able to appoint them to a limited term.  I remember celebrating W’s recess appointment of John Bolton as U.N. ambassador.  Obama stired controversy on recent recess appointments because Congress was not actually in recess.  The Supreme Court and settled law had determined that if Congress was not in session for three or more days then they were in recess.  Obama, with the backing of his Justice Department waited ONE DAY to claim a recess and appoint his henchmen.  Fortunately we have a strong Congress who cares about maintain the delicate balance of the three branches of government and will soon fix/find a way to reverse the appointments – – Oh wait we don’t have enough Congressmen with the guts to take on Obama.

The Elephants Duel

When elephants duel the only ones who really get hurt are those poor souls unlucky enough to be between them.  Locally we have a somewhat nasty fuel between two health care behemoths.  The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (“UPMC) has not so quietly been gobbling up hospital after hospital after hospital.  They have built an impressive array of first-class medical facilities and propelled the Pittsburgh Region to the forefront of quality health care centers.  Highmark is is behemoth 2 and has been the local service for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and one of the larger insurance providers in the area.  UPMC go irked recently when Highmark took steps to purchase UPMC’s largest (actually quite smaller) competitor, West Penn Allegheny who have severe financial problems.

The Forest For The Trees

“Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt contended that the president has not broken his promise on [taking money from] lobbyists, saying in a statement that the Times analysis “misses the forest for the trees.”

The accusation has to be particularly hurtful to Obama since it came from their long-time pubic relations firm, The New York Times.  If you factor in “liberal-speak” there is a missing word in the quote from Obama’s spokesman and that would be the word  “directly.”  Once the money is bundled and rebundled and given by lobbyists, but from their personal accounts it’s all mixed up.  Who could follow it.  You would have to be as naive as a mass media journalist to believe that lobbying money doesn’t make its way into Obama’s coffers.

Executive Power

The framers wrote the Constitution to provide for a separation of powers, or three separate branches of government. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. This is done through checks and balances. A branch may use its powers to check the powers of the other two in order to maintain a balance of power among the three branches of government. The three branches of the U.S. Government are: Legislative, Executive, Judicial

Parsimony – Obama Overhaul

In “Parse-imony” I break down current news stories with my pithy, running commentary…

First the headline…

Obama pulls plug on part of health overhaul law

…and now the story:

WASHINGTON – (AP) — The Obama administration says it is unable to go forward with a major program in the president’s signature health care overhaul law — a new long-term care insurance plan. [broken promises]

Officials said Friday the long-term care program has critical design flaws that can’t be fixed to make it financially self-sustaining. [Perhaps had they spent a little time doin some cipherin they could have figured this stuff out ahead of time.  It is hard to believe that the White House’s fiscal projections were flawed.]

The OBA Administration

I’d like to suggest that the Obama Administration be renamed the OBA Administration or the Obama Back-Assward Administration.  When most of us have a problem we try to find and fix using logic.  For instance, my car was having some trouble starting so I had the battery and alternator checked.  If I were to act like the Obama Back-Assward Administration, I would probably have my key checked.  It would be funny except that these folks are “running” the country or should I say “ruining” the country…
