One Million Steps

Sometime in the afternoon of April 27, 2012 I achieved a milestone albeit a couple of weeks later than I had hoped. On January 1 I started a program to increase the number of steps that I took each day with an ultimate goal of getting 10,000 steps a day. Starting a walking program in January in Pittsburgh probably was not the easiest thing, but I had to start somewhere and now that it is hotter I am glad that I got that start. I am, unfortunately, a sweater and this may restrict how much walking I do on my lunch break unless my co-workers don’t mind a sweaty heap nearby.

Drive

I once had an unhappy guy working for me.  He felt like he was not paid enough for the responsibilities that he had and I agreed, however, I didn’t have any control over compensation.  He was a great employee and I worked to get him more money, but I knew that when I was finally successful his satisfaction would not last so I looked at ways to make our work more “fun.”  We still did our work, but I was able to introduce more autonomy to his schedule and involve him in some out-of-the-box tasks.  I’ve been gone from that company over twelve years, but I recently ran into Hank and he is still there and is close to retirement.

Congress acts, but bank bill has work ahead

In this series I choose a current news article and you decide via a multiple choice format which terms were used and whether others would have been more accurate…….

WASHINGTON — In the end, it’s only a beginning.

The __________ (comprehensive, far-reaching, power grabbing, socialist) new banking and consumer protection bill awaiting President Barack Obama’s signature now shifts from the politicians to the technocrats.

The legislation gives regulators __________( latitude, unlimited power, control, plenty of campaign contributions)  and time to come up with new rules, requires scores of studies and, in some instances, depends on international __________ (approval, loans, agreements, scorn) falling into place.

Big Time

I may be on the cusp of hitting it big or hit the “tipping point.”  I came across an explosive White House document as I searched the Internet earlier in the week.  I wasn’t sure whether to publish it as I don’t have a lot of money to defend myself from Big Brother.  This document has the potential to bring down politicians at a very high level.

This single page document seems to outline the strategy as the White House and the Democrats pursue their transformation of America.  The ingenuity of the document is its flexibility as it can be modified and adjusted to fit multiple goals.  I had seen similar documents, but they were in chemistry books and dealt with waste treatment.  You can be the judge whether this constitutes “waste treatment.”
