Update – Are The Czars Out Tonight

Much has been written about Obama’s bevy of extra constitutional czars and their seeming unlimited power and lack of congressional oversight. Perhaps even the staunchest Obama-zombie can overlook this power grab because of the promise to fundamentally change the way things are done in Washington. It must be getting hard for the Obama-zombies (and I apologize to regular zombies) to ignore the ever-growing number of examples of the blob-like intrusion of the federal government into even their rose-colored Obama-glasses.

Obama Appoints Warren to Shape New Consumer Agency

In this series I choose a current news article and you decide via a multiple choice format which terms were used and whether others would have been more accurate…….

Sept. 17 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama named Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren a(n) __________ (adviser, czar, czarina, non-vetted adviser) to help  __________ (control, shape, subvert, empower) the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, calling her __________ (“one of the country’s fiercest advocates for the lower class,” “one of the country’s fiercest advocates for the middle class,”  “an elitist from academia with no business experience who will further my socialist agenda,”  “an awesome sista and you’re a racist if you oppose her nomination…wait there was no nomination process as she is just another one of my extra-Constitutional appointees with unlimited power and answers only to me…snap!”)

Headline Humor – Volume I

I know many of these stories are serious, but the headlines removed the restrain from my brain and we get headline humor.  These are the actual headlines as I found on-line.  When you click on the headline you will be taken to the original story which more often than not has nothing to do with my vision of the headline.

Are You Smarter Than…

This posting is a quiz based on recent news stories and will test your ability to discern the correct answers to the questions.  Good Luck!

Are you smarter than politicians?

Question 1:  Senator John McCain and Senator Tom Coburn recently released a report, Summertime Blues, detailing some of the worst cases of wasted tax dollars.  We have almost become immune to these types pet projects that scream WASTE!  I don’t know where Sen. Coburn stands on the issue of earmark, but Senator McCain has been steadfast in his fight against them and has refused to participate and we should celebrate his efforts.  One of the items on the list was a mere $712,883.00 to build a machine that tells jokes.  Here is the test.  Which of the following is the machine?

Congress acts, but bank bill has work ahead

In this series I choose a current news article and you decide via a multiple choice format which terms were used and whether others would have been more accurate…….

WASHINGTON — In the end, it’s only a beginning.

The __________ (comprehensive, far-reaching, power grabbing, socialist) new banking and consumer protection bill awaiting President Barack Obama’s signature now shifts from the politicians to the technocrats.

The legislation gives regulators __________( latitude, unlimited power, control, plenty of campaign contributions)  and time to come up with new rules, requires scores of studies and, in some instances, depends on international __________ (approval, loans, agreements, scorn) falling into place.

News Briefs – Volume VIII

News briefs are a collection of interesting news stories…

Brief 1:  Big New York Brother wants to use the occasion of the failed truck bomb to “flood Manhattan” to stop future attacks.  Someone needs to explain how an inanimate object like a video camera will stop attacks.  Will they be fitted with propulsion systems to they can hurl themselves at would be attackers?  It would be more economical to use drones to fly over the city like on the television series “24.”  My prediction is that they’ll buy cameras made in China.

Rule 13 Reversed

A funny thing happened on the way to change in Washington, some conservatives have noticed that Saul Alinsky’s Rule 13 can be used against the liberals.  In Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals – Rule 13 is:

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

A couple of weeks ago I posted how the left seemed to be targeting Glen Beck for some comments he made about President Obama.  At the time of Rule 13 Redux, left-swinging groups were pressuring Mr. Beck’s advertisers to cancel their commercials during his show.  The tactic seemed to be working as many customers seemed to be leaving.

Czar (zar)

Czar us defined as:

“One having great power or authority.”

Synonyms:  autocrat, despot, leader, ruler

Can you use it in a sentance?

“So in effect we have NON-ELECTED officials, who are backed by The White House, who are given the tools and resources to do the bidding of the President and they are accountable to NO ONE! These czar’s don’t have to undergo Senate Confirmation Hearings, they just get appointed.”

What does Charles Krauthammer think?

“More czars than you find at a Romanov wedding.  What I don’t understand is why you want to call anybody a “czar.” The czars had a sorry history of success and achievement.”
