Framing the Dialogue

In My Time

It seems that I grew up with Dick Cheney and hardly knew it until the last ten years.  Vice President Cheney’s political career and life really spanned my teenage years when he was with Nixon/Ford then Bush 1 then Bush 2.  There is perhaps no greater lightening rod in the Republican party than Mr. Cheney.  I sit near a gentleman at work who volunteered how much he hated Dick Cheney when he noticed that I was reading his book at lunch.  Like his career In My Time is a long account of his time in both the private and public sector.  Mr. Cheney provides a great deal of depth behind many of the most “controversial” decisions made during the Bush presidency.  I used the quotes around controversial because they perhaps weren’t so controversial when you read his side; a side of decisions that were not advanced enough for my taste.

The OBA Administration

I’d like to suggest that the Obama Administration be renamed the OBA Administration or the Obama Back-Assward Administration.  When most of us have a problem we try to find and fix using logic.  For instance, my car was having some trouble starting so I had the battery and alternator checked.  If I were to act like the Obama Back-Assward Administration, I would probably have my key checked.  It would be funny except that these folks are “running” the country or should I say “ruining” the country…

Barry’s Choice

We were blessed on Valentine’s Day with the release of the Obama Administration’s 2012 budget proposal.  The cover of the document perhaps should have been red, but give him credit Obama is coming out swinging in defense of his vision for our economic future (sound of toilet flushing in the distance).  It is an interesting tactic to produce this and immediately have his lackeys and media dogs go on the attack because the Republicans have not given their proposal for the 2012 budget.  Perhaps that is because they are working to cut from the current budget before taking on the next one.  The 2011 bloated Democrat budget is not a done deal.

A Few Words About Egypt

It is hard to even a few hours without hearing troubling news about the events in Egypt.  I have a few thoughts that you may have already heard and wanted to share them without deep analysis that can only reasonably come after the dust has settled.

  • I find it telling that the Obama Administration has delved deeply into the struggles of a nation ruled by a man seemingly unpopular with his people.  A man who rules with an iron fist, but is friendly to the west and Israel.  Obama’s daily calls for another country’s leader to step down is unsettling in that I thought he was against interference with the governance of other countries.

Keeping Up With The Jones

The joke goes;  A Brit, a Canadian, a Croatian, a Frenchman, a German, an Irishman, a Mexican, a Romanian, a Dutchman, a Norwegian, a South Korean, and a Swede rush out of a bar one day.  Barry the bartender says “What’s the hurry?  Did someone spill something?

The joke unfortunately is on us as our federal goverment has refused the help of these nations to control and clean up the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  Many of us seriously have our doubts that the White House was on top of things from “day one,” but the linked article provides a glimpse into the fact that many of our allies offered help in our hour of need.  The Dutch, in particular, offered help almost from DAY ONE.  Here we are nearly two months later and the Obama administration is still refusing help from other countries.
