Framing the Dialogue

Stockholm Syndrome

I was recently watching one of my favorite shows, Always Sunny In Philadelphia. In one episode the main characters were held hostage by some local bullies and one of the hostages talked about Stockholm Syndrome and even began to exhibit symptoms. Stockholm Syndrome is where hostages who have been held for a long time begin to share the values and beliefs of those who are holding them captive. I have a very healthy disrespect for the main-stream media as water-carriers for the Democrats and liberal causes, but I have begun to feel sorry for them. I do believe that they may actually have Stockholm Syndrome.

The main-stream media have long been held hostage by their liberal beliefs, by their lack of experience with real people (those that live outside of either “left” coast), by their obvious infatuation with all things Obama, by their automatic dislike for all things conservative, and by their willingness to bow to peer pressure to seemingly “manage” news or promote Democrat talking points. Rush Limbaugh often compiles the audio of numerous media outlets who parrot the same talking points even to the point of using the same catch phrases. I am worried about the media.

There is no greater evidence in my mind than the press conference held by President Obama yesterday. How can they continue to treat this man, an emperor with no clothes, as if he is a god? It used to be that I could not stand listening to Mr. Obama speak because of his partisan, left-slanted views. That is still true, but his ability to even deliver a message or read a teleprompter has severely degraded. His delivery is not just annoying to a conservative it is just plain horrible. Yet the main-stream media continues with the charade that he is somehow brilliant and a great communicator. He is not even an average communicator and I’ll wait to see his grades before I’ll accept that he is a genius.

Some key parts of Obama’s remarks yesterday show the press’ willing suspension of disbelief when they, as a group or individually, did not challenge any of his statements,

These are bills that Congress ran up,” he noted. “The money’s been spent. The obligations have been made.” [The president who has increased the size of the federal government and the deficit and the debt blames Congress for the spending – The main-stream media is silent]

“Now they’re saying maybe we don’t have to pay or we don’t have to pay as fast as we said we were going to. That’s not how responsible families act. We’re the greatest nation on earth and we can’t act that way. So this is urgent and it needs to get settled.” [This sounds right unless you consider that he just wants to spend more money that we don’t have and is actually arguing for an increase in our credit card (debt ceiling) limit which many economists feel is NOT RESPONSIBLE – The main-stream media is silent]

And I’ve already shown that I’m willing to make decisions that are very tough and you know, give my base of voters further reason to give me a hard time, but it’s got to be done, so there’s no point in procrastinating.” [There is just too much hubris here. This statement from a man who took literally months to decide on whether to deploy additional troops to Afghanistan as requested by his commanders in the field, a man who I don’t believe has yet to visit the flood ravaged Midwest, a man deferred the Obamacare legislation to Pelosi and Reid, a man who…never mind. – The main-stream media is silent.]

And if by the end of this week we have not seen substantial progress then I think members of Congress need to understand we’re going to have to start cancelling things and stay here until we get it done. They’re in one week. They’re out one week. And then they’re saying Obama’s got to step in – you need to be here, I’ve been here,” [Where’s he been? He is been in near constant campaign mode since January, going on “official” visits (or vacations as most folks call them), and golfing. He has not been a leader of the country as much as a union/community organizer. – The main-stream media has spoken about this subject, however, they typically pull out statistics (probably supplied by the White House) showing how often other presidents took vacations…oh and how golf relaxes Obama and how he deserves the time off.]

You know, Malia and Sasha generally finish their homework a day ahead of time. Malia is 13 and Sasha is 10. It is impressive.” [Obama got his daughter’s age wrong – The main-stream media did report this]

There is no word on when these hostages will be released, but it is looking like November 2012 with the final release sometime in late January 2013. Like all Stockholm afflicted hostages they will do everything in their power to ensure that they stay captive.
