Framing the Dialogue

True American Hero – Rick Santelli (CNBC News)

Update March 27, 2009:  Rich Santelli started a firestorm (in a great way) across the United States with his comments a month ago.  Tea parties have been been held across the country attracting up to 15,000 at an event in California.  Glenn Beck has championed the tea party movement and has provided a link to planned events.  April 15 seems to be THE big day for tea parties with an estimated 150 planned.

In a recent posting on the Investor’s Business Daily Editorials page, they questioned the lack of coverage by the mainstream media.  I think that many of us who no longer get their news from traditional sources know why.

I had not noticed as I have tuned them out.  I would be interested in learning where you prefer to get your news.

On CNBC, reporter Rick Santilli did the unthinkable for a mainstream media outlet reporter.  He criticized the Obama Administration.  Mr. Santilli is a True American Hero because of what he said, how passionate he was in his comments, and most importantly where he said it (on a CNBC program while he was on a Chicago trading floor).

His comments about the Administration’s proposed $75 billion mortgage bailout echoes what many conservatives have said.  He made his comments on what many believe to be a very liberal network.

Here are some of my favorites:

“The government is promoting bad behavior.”

“How about this President and new administration.  Why don’t you put up a web site and have people vote on the Internet as a referendum to see if we really want to subsidize the losers mortgages.”

“This is America.  How many of you people want to pay for your neighbor’s mortgage that has an extra bathroom and can’t pay their bills?”

“President Obama are you listening?”

“We’re thinking of having a Chicago Tea Party in July.  All you capitalist who want to show up to Lake Michigan, I’m going to start organizing it.”

“Do you think that I want to take a shower every hour?  The last place that I am ever going to live or work us D.C.”

“You can’t buy your way into prosperity…we never have to worry about the economy again.  The government should spend a trillion dollars an hour because we’ll get 1.5 trillion back.”

“If you read our founding fathers, people like Benjamin Franklin and Jefferson, what we are doing in this country now is making them roll in their graves.”

I have been watching this over and over and loving it.  You may watch the entire segment here.

Maybe more United States news outlets will finally speak up about our emperor’s new clothes.
