Framing the Dialogue

Obama In His Own Words – War On Coal

“What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.  I was the first to call for a 100 percent auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter.  That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.  So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

 – – BHO (January 2008) – –

So those are Obama’s words nine months or so before the 2008 election and yet many “coal” states and mine workers supported his bid for the presidency.  I am not sure how someone would vote to eliminate their own means of making a living.

This story is different from the first two in the series in that Obama is in fact keeping his word as evidenced by these two recent stories;

Utility giant AEP says it will close five coal plants to comply with EPA regs

Obama policies hammered following coal-mine closings, layoffs

We all need to become ALARMED when coal-fired power plants are being closed before a reliable replacement is found.  Windmills and solar panels are just not the answer…not yet anyway or any time soon.
