The dictionary defines misguided as:
1. led or prompted by wrong or inappropriate motives or ideals, well-meaning but misguided do-gooders
2. poorly conceived or thought out.
Synonyms: unwise, mistaken, foolish, misled, misplaced, deluded, ill-advised, imprudent, injudicious
Example 1: Nanny MO (Michelle Obama) has been a champion for obesity, okay anti-obesity. She recently came out with some ideas on how to better run supermarkets. She has a special knowledge since she probably hasn’t routinely purchased food for her family for at least five years and probably longer. Certainly her background as a lawyer has prepared her for this campaign and it is a worthy one…up to a point. Education is important, but when she steps into the “government control†mode my hackles rise;
“a moral obligation to our children…a patriotic obligation to our country…Walking into any grocery store in America and finding the healthiest options clearly marked and centrally placed. Opening up a menu at any restaurant and knowing exactly which items will give your family the most nutrition for your hard-earned dollar…Just think for a minute what this country could look like…We have everything we need right here and right now to make this happen. We just have to summon the focus and the will.”
I couldn’t find the text of her speech, but when I heard portions on the radio she also mentioned “price†in her comments. It shouldn’t take much effort to imagine this crowd passing a bunch of regulations for product placement, more and more labels, and price controls. A caller to a local talk show suggested that Ms. Obama take a proactive approach and limit food stamp programs to allow only healthy choices for purchase. The Administration could do that rather quickly and it would fit in with her vision.
As an aside Obama also made a statement to this affect; “Each week, she showed up at the supermarket–budget and shopping list in hand–determined to get in and out in 30 minutes, max.†[emphasis added] So there is some evidence that the Obamas have heard of the term “budget.â€
Example 2: Nanny Bloomberg and his quest to rid NYC of soft drinks greater than 16 ounces in size. The ban was recently blocked by the courts, but Bloomberg insists that he’ll continue the fight. So one has to ask why just soft drinks? What about loaded pizzas? What about buttered popcorn? What about Twinkies (oh that’s right the unions took care of Twinkies)? There are just so many other things to attack. I have a suggestion for Nanny Bloomberg – how about attacking the NYC Public Schools that graduates 80 percent of high school students who still cannot read! And that’s just the “college bound†students.
Example 3: Nanny Bloomberg again is at it and has committed millions of dollars of his own money to Independence USA, the super PAC that he created, to support anti-gun legislation. He can certainly waste his billions (YES kids he is a one percenter) any way he wants. This may sound familiar, but I have a suggestion for Nanny Bloomberg – how about attacking the NYC Public Schools who graduates 80 percent of high school students who still cannot read! And that’s just the “college bound†students.
