“If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater the effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders — what would you tell him to do?”
I am beginning to believe that the only chance for America is for the wealth builders to stand up to the leaches in government and the citizenry. All to often lately corporations are looking to get their piece and go along to survive rather than thrive. Are they out there? A few have made some noise…
I have to say that I am a proud stockholder of Exelon Corporation owner of the oldest nuclear reactor in the United States. After four years of a permit renewal process for the facility, it is now facing significant and new capital expenditures to comply with New Jersey permit requirements. Exelon announced that rather than comply it would shut down the facility. Goin Galt!
Heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar has been on Obama’s radar and the SOC (Socialist In Charge) even made a campaign stop there in February 2009 (I know that he had already been sworn in, but he has never stopped campaigning) to tout the stimulus bill and offer that because of his efforts companies like Caterpillar would be hiring more people. Caterpillar promptly announced additional layoffscontradicting the Prez.
Fast forward to health care and the company again took on the administration by sending a open letter opposing the health care reform bill. Caterpillar estimates their costs will increase by $100 million. So we have a poor economy and just hit one of the few equipment manufacturing facilities with additional costs. Any one want to take a shot at estimating how many American jobs will be lost or not saved by these measures? Goin Galt?
That’s the good news. The bad news is that I could only find two examples to use. Where are the health insurance companies? Where is big Pharma? Where is John Galt?
