Framing the Dialogue

True American Heroes

True American Hero – Charles Krauthammer

One of my favorite newscasters is Fox News’ Brit Hume and Special Report was a frequent place for me to get my “Fair and Balanced” news.  Within that newscast Brit usually had three journalists who discussed current events as the “Fox All-Star” panel.  The panel always offered balanced opinions which in the eyes of the Main Stream Media (MSM) made it look conservative.  Funny how perspective can skew your vision and make you miss the obvious.

Update – True American Hero – Carrie Prejean

Update May 12, 2009 – In what is now my quickest update, The Donald decreed that Miss Prejean’s photographs were “acceptable” and that she may keep her Miss California crown.  As I searched for news reports on today’s events, I was struck by this blurb:

“Donald Trump will announce whether he will let gay-bashing, born-again beauty Carrie Prejean keep her crown.”

The MSM and the vitriolic left just cannot let it go.  I’ll finish this short update using Mr. Trump’s words:

“Carrie is totally beautiful, and her answer, because of that, took on greater importance. Unfortunately, that’s the way the press works. You should be ashamed of yourselves.”

True American Heroes – Carrie Prejean

The Miss USA Pageant is not high on the list of anyone’s must see television.  It seems like a kind of antiquated show from the past.  Many probably did not know that it was even still on the air.  My only real memory of the contest was when long-time host Bert Parks sang the theme song as that year’s winner took her victory lap.  Actually thanks to Glenn Beck this morning, I learned that there is actually a Miss America Pageant (that’s the one Bert Parks hosted) and Miss USA Pageant (Trump’s version).

True American Hero – Bishop John M. D’Arcy

“The ultimate determinant in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas-a trial of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideals to which we are dedicated.”

                                                                         Ronald Reagan

Growing up Catholic nearly 50 years ago did not entail a great deal of “gray” areas when it came to right vs wrong debates.  The Ten Commandments are pretty clear and Sister Mary Margaret let us know when we strayed.  Punishment was swift and we survived and were better for it.  As a parent, I especially like number Four (Honor your Father and your Mother), I am not sure my children get the whole “honor” thing (that should trigger a comment if they read my posts).

True American Hero – Jake DeSantis

“The truth that makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear.”

                                                                                                    Herbert Agar

My next True American Hero is, of all things, a corporate officer of American International Group, better known as AIG.  Jake DeSantis was an executive vice president of AIG’s financial products unit for the past 12 months.  It seems like a stretch to suggest that anyone from AIG is a hero, but there are many left in the company who are trying to fix the problems and many former AIG employees are speaking.

Update – True American Heroes – Rick Santelli

Update March 27, 2009:  Rich Santelli started a firestorm (in a great way) across the United States with his comments a month ago.  Tea parties have been been held across the country attracting up to 15,000 at an event in California.  Glenn Beck has championed the tea party movement and has provided a link to planned events.  April 15 seems to be THE big day for tea parties with an estimated 150 planned.

In a recent posting on the Investor’s Business Daily Editorials page, they questioned the lack of coverage by the mainstream media.  I think that many of us who no longer get their news from traditional sources know why.

True American Hero – Daniel Hannan

“I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell.”

                                                                           Harry S. Truman

This is my second True American Hero who is not an American.  I had planned on another individual for this posting today, but Daniel Hannan’s inspirational words to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown resonated today.  I had to travel three hours to attend a meeting today (and three hours back) so I was fortunate to hear his words numerous times.

True American Hero – Vaclav Klaus

A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.

                                                                                   Ralph Waldo Emerson

My second True American Hero is not an American yet his views and candid speaking would make our forefathers proud.  Vaclav Klaus is the president of the Czech Republic and recently became the President of the European Union.  Here is what the New York Times wrote about him last November:

True American Hero – Lia ???

“I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

                                            Christopher Reeve

When I heard my second True American Hero’s presentation replayed on the radio this morning I was impressed with her passion and clarity of thought.  Her stance against abortion was not a popular position to present to her audience yet she persisted and gave a great speech.
